Almost 2 years

Okay I'm a little behind. Life happened somewhere in there I guess. I will try and do a book release this year for Halloween, it might prove to me interesting as I will have my newborn son helping me, or he'll be helping daddy with something inside. I think another reason it got postponed last year if I remember right, I had to work and we have the dog now. I have to go back through my books to see what we have, I know some got damaged when the power went out and the sub-pump stopped working. I'm going to see what I can do this year. with set up, maybe it'll be different then in the past, the porch isn't as cluttered. I'm also hoping my husband will let me make the Little Free Library (http://www.littlefreelibrary.org) for in the yard. About. A sense of community, reading for children, literacy for adults and libraries around the world Description We're building and promoting "Take a book, leave a book" structures that fit in a front yard, by a sidewalk, coffee shop or park and are just big enough to hold 20-30 books that kids and adults can give and take. Built with recycled materials, designed and decorated by neighborhood groups and watched over by volunteer stewards, each little "habitat for the humanities" turns over its collection several times a month. People seem to love the idea. They can't steal the books because the books are "free"--freely given by neighbors from their own collections, used bookstores, authors and others who love the sense of community that the Little Libraries create. Each LFLibrary will be located on a Google map with GPS coordinates. Many will have a theme--anything from heroes and geography to weather, children around the world, adventure, food, the environment, gardening...you name it. This nonprofit program is also generating support for libraries in villages in Asia, Latin America and Africa as well as the U.S. But it all starts small. As the Little Free Library network expands, local and national sponsors see the value as much as the children and adults who share their books and build "their own." We want to break Andrew Carnegie's record of 2,509 community free libraries. We recognize that people support what they help create. Partners are welcome!

Offical Count

I had about 90 trick or treaters and about 70 books were released. It was great fun. I had the porch set up so that once again the books were the main focus and that I had to tell them were the treats were. I was impressed once again how many were excited to get the books. Maybe next year I'll find a way to attach the candy to the book, so they have to take a book to get the candy. Something to think about.

I still have a few books, but some I can give to a friend for his classroom, as he wants the Newberry Medal winners. I know his kids always enjoy getting books.

Close

Well, I'm almost all set. I have over 300 books to release, though I'm sure not all will be taken. I just have to readjust how I will have them displayed this Halloween. I have them seperated in to 4 groups by the different reading levels. RL 1-2, RL 3-4, RL 5-6, and RL 7-8. I think last time I did this I had RL 1-4 together and RL 5-8 together, which I might do again this year, it'll be simpler, we'll see.

This Halloween

Unfortunately I will not be able to do my usually book release this year for Halloween as I will be out of town. But a friend of mine travelin_vibe and her husband have agreed to help me by releasing books on the way to visit her sister in MI. I won't be able to release books as I need to travel lite for my journey. So wish travelin_vibe luck on release a lot of books for me.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

to whomever

For this year, I hope to release even more. If you'd like to donate books, they are welcomed. If you'd like something in return, both Irissunshine, not-a-clue and travelin-vibe , have offered me their books for trades.

2006/2007 info

2006 release went rather well. I think I figured I had over 100 books, and had about half left. A lot of the kids where excited to get the books, and they forgot all about the candy.

Nov 1, 2006
Most of the books on here will be kids books. They are also mostly Halloween books for the release I do at that time.

10-15-07 The offical count of books left is 70. So I'll see about getting some more to bring the count up. I think I'm gonna try and find a way to have them seperated from younger kids and older, by using color coding.

New Element

So this year for the release, I'm adding a new element. Last year I had a letter typed up and by the books, this year I shrunk that same letter made it for one book instead of multiple, and printing it on a 2" x 4" label to be put in the front of the book near the label with the BCID. We shall see if this gets more hits then before. I'll probably still put the other letter out near the books. I also think I'll see if I can't put a sign in the yard that says something about free books...Each year I improve and revamp the system. But anyways here's the letter:

I’m a very special book. I hope I’ve found new friend in you. I’m just a newbie in the bookcrossing world, so my journey has only just begun, so help me further my journey.
Here’s all you have to do:
Go to www.bookcrossing.com and enter my BCID number which can be found on inside of my front cover. There’s no need to become a member to journal that you have me, you can do it anonymously (though if you like the idea I suggest becoming a member to release more of my friends). Read me, and then release me so other kids can enjoy my story, if you like me so much and wish to keep me, you can do that too. Any information that is given to the bookcrossing community stays in the community. Just think, you can even get books from across the ocean (trading is for members only.)
I hope I make your night and that you also get lots of goodies to enjoy while reading me.

Hello All

I don't know how many of you are fimilar with Bookcrossing. It's the releasing of books into the wild for others to find and enjoy. A few years ago, I became MysticPumpkin. But it was only 2 years ago in 2006 tht I decided to release the books at Halloween time. So most of the books on my shelf are geared towards kids. I hope to keep taps on books and more info of things on here. If anyone has any ideas let me know.
